BUDERER COMPOUNDING PHARMACY LAUDED FOR DRUG REPOSITORY INITIATIVE
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services issued its report to congress on State Drug Repository Programs on April 29, 2010.  Drug Repository Programs utilize unused medications to be re-dispensed to people who have no drug prescription coverage, or people who are underinsured and cannot pay retail prices for their medications.

In its 134 page report, HHS said “The Ohio program has been fully operational since 2006, with an independent, family-owned pharmacy, Buderer Drug Company of Sandusky, OH, playing the most prominent role (in Ohio).”

Serving Our Seniors plays a significant role screening applicants.  OmniCare provides boxes of unused medications that we sort, repackage and distribute to patients who qualify.  The Sandusky Erie County Community Foundation was instrumental in helping us to raise funds when the state recently cut the allowable dispensing fee (the only source of income to provide this service),” explained Matt Buderer, Vice-President of the Pharmacy.

Buderer Drug Company is seeking to increase the dispensing fee (the only cost to the patient) from state officials to help cover the financial losses the program suffers annually.  Currently, the Buderer Drug Repository Program provides medications to patients in 12 counties across northern Ohio and recently met with officials in another county to provide information about how they can start their own Drug Repository Program.

Buderer Drug Company was established in 1878 in Sandusky.  A second pharmacy was opened in Perrysburg  ten years ago.  Buderer Pharmacy is dedicated to working together with the patient and their healthcare provider to  “customize” the medication to the specific needs of the patient.
